Thigh Lift (Cruroplasty): The Post-Weight-Loss Surgery Many Patients Don't Know About

Why is the inner thigh such a common problem area?

The skin on the inner thigh has little structural support, so after significant weight loss it often ends up with excess skin that hangs and rubs when walking. Many patients mention it as one of the most uncomfortable areas in daily life — it affects how they dress, how they exercise, and can even cause constant skin irritation — yet it's discussed far less than the abdomen or arms.

What does a thigh lift involve?

A thigh lift removes excess skin from the inner thigh and repositions the remaining tissue to firm up the area. Depending on how much skin needs to be corrected, the scar can be placed in the groin crease or extend vertically along the inner thigh — this is determined during evaluation, case by case.

Can it be planned alongside other surgeries?

Yes. In many post-bariatric patients, a thigh lift is planned as part of a broader body contouring plan, alongside procedures like liposuction or a butt lift, depending on which areas each patient needs to address.

Recovery

Recovery requires special attention to friction and rubbing in the area (an appropriate compression garment, loose clothing for the first few weeks) and a gradual return to walking long distances or exercising. Scar care is particularly important in this surgery, given that it's an area of constant movement.
